Calcasieu Pass LNG cleared for Non-FTA Exports

Venture Global LNG Inc.’s Calcasieu Pass LNG facility has been given permission to export to non-free trade agreement (Non-FTA) countries. The clearance from the US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy allows the Cameron Parish, Louisiana facility to export up to 620 billion ft2 of LNG per year for the next 25 years.

Prior authorizations for the facility include the DOE’s approval for exporting to FTA countries as well as the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order Granting Authorizations to allow construction and operation.

Following the DOE authorization, the Co-CEO’s for Venture stated, “We are pleased that our Calcasieu Pass buyers – Shell, BP, Edison, Galp, Repsol, and PGNiG – can now deliver our low-cost US-produced energy worldwide, and we are proud to bring the benefit of the DOE’s decision to our country and our local communities in Louisiana. We have filed our implementation plans with FERC to commence site works imminently.”

The facility is set to use liquification trains supplied by Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE), while design, engineering, construction and testing will be performed by Kiewit. Upon completion, the Calcasieu Pass facility will produce 10 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG.
