FSRU Independence set for First Inspection

Klaipėdos nafta (KN) and Hoegh LNG’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), the Independence, is approaching its first required inspection. The vessel’s hull, tanks and facilities will be inspected at its five-year mark, in accordance with regulation standards.

The Independence’s 170,000 m3 LNG tank will be warmed so that an inspection of the tank can be performed from the inside. Once the tank isolation has been assessed and cleared, the Independence will go back into normal operations.

About 50 workers are expected to perform scheduled maintenance, which will be inspected by a third party, DNV GL at Klaipėda. This is expected to reduce costs as it will avoid the need to take the vessel to the shipyard.
