Total reaches 230,000 bopd with Kaombo Sul

Total added about 115,00 barrels of oil per day (bopd) as its second floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) station became operational. Kaombo Sul is part of the larger Kaombo project located off the coast of Luanda. Kaombo Sul along with its counterpart, Kaombo Norte, account for nearly 15% of Angola’s oil production at 230,000 BOPD.

Kaombo Sul connects to three oil fields, Louro, Mostarda and Canela while Kaombo Norte connects to three others, Gengibre, Caril and Gindungo.

Arnaud Breuillac, Total’s President of Exploration and Production stated, “Leveraging the experience of Kaombo Norte, Kaombo Sul started up in the best possible conditions. This second FPSO stands out as an excellent example of standardization to reduce costs and improve efficiency.” Breuillac also noted that the additional production from Kaombo Sul will aid in cash flow as well as output.

The Kaombo project overall consists of 59 wells working in tandem with the two FPSOs. About 20% of the project hours were worked locally, setting a record for the area.
