UAE announces 80 TCF shallow gas Discovery

UAE oil company ADNOC has discovered 80 TCF of shallow gas between Saih Al Sidirah in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali in the emirate of Dubai. ADNOC drilled over 10 exploration and appraisal wells as part of the project, the first time the Abu-Dhabi company has explored for hydrocarbons in Dubai.

The UAE made the announcement while signing a strategic cooperation agreement between the ADNOC and the Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP) to continue exploring and developing the gas resources in the 5,000-square-km (1,930-square-mile) Jebel Ali project area.

Director General of DUSUP Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and UAE Minister of State and ADNOC Group CEO Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber signed the agreement.

The agreement will see the two companies exploring the area further to assess the gas resources and work out development costs. The gas will be used by DUSUP to support Dubai’s economy. Ahmed bin Saeed said: “The agreement is an important step forward in further enhancing cooperation and tapping synergies to maximize the UAE’s resources, as part of our leadership’s vision for the next 50-year phase of development. This partnership enables our organizations to combine each other’s capabilities to capture the greatest possible benefits from the UAE’s hydrocarbon assets.”
