Sakhalin-2 LNG continues to link Russia to Asian-Pacific

The Sakhalin-2 LNG plant hit its 10-year mark since its initial loading. The 2009 operation was Russia’s first ever LNG loading onto a vessel. Since then, the Sakhalin-2 LNG plant has linked Russian LNG supply to the Asian-Pacific, including China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

In 2018 Sakhalin’s output accounted for nearly 3.6% of global LNG supply, placing the company as an important player in the industry. In the past decade Sakhalin Energy’s LNG facility in Russia has loaded over 100 million tons of LNG. The plant has a capacity of 9.6 million tons per annum (MTPA) and is covered by sale and purchase agreements (SPAs). Since the beginning of production, the plant has gained efficiencies and output has increased by about 20% overall, further securing their position as a key supplier in the region.
