Wärtsilä wins Engine order for China’s first LNG powered PSVs

Chinese shipowner China Oilfield Services Co Ltd (COSL) contracted with Wärtsilä for the supply of 40 engines for 12 new build liquified natural gas (LNG) powered platform supply vessels (PSV). This project marks China’s first ever LNG-powered PSVs.

Although there was strong competition, Wärtsilä won the order based on several benefits of the company’s 20DF engines. Benefits include increased fuel efficiency, lower environmental impact, minimal operating costs and proven durability.

According to COSL’s Shipbuilding Project Management Team Manager, “More and more ships are being built for use with LNG fuel, and we see these 12 ships as part of a trend that will continue to grow. This is why we chose Wärtsilä, a company with experience and know-how in LNG fuel solutions.”

Wärtsilä will deliver the 40 engines to Liaonan Shipyard in China by the end of 2019.
