Gasum opens new Gas filling Station for Heavy Vehicles in Sweden

Finnish state-owned gas company Gasum has opened its 10th Swedish gas filling station, which will provide heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) in Kalmar with LNG and liquefied biogas.

Gasum noted that biogas production is well established in south Sweden, where Kalmar is located. Gasum is currently building a biogas plant in the south at a pulp and paper mill run by Stora Enso. Operations are expected to start during the second half of 2020.

EU emission standards envision reducing the bloc’s HDV emissions by 30% by 2030, with Sweden’s national targets aiming to reduce road transport emissions by 70% of 2010’s levels by 2030.

Gasum aims to build 50 Nordic HDV gas-filling stations in the next few years to help the region transition to cleaner fuels for long-haul transport.
